Thanks, Gary!
I wanted to dedicate this blog post to Gary Kayye, who’s been a professor of mine in the J-School for the past two semesters.
To all current journalism students, a word of advice: ABSOLUTELY take a class with Gary if you can. He’s an awesome professor who’s passionate about the course content and makes the class worth coming to each and every day. You’ll learn a ton, especially when it comes to general life lessons, and the assignments, for the most part, are always meaningful and fun. You may not realize it at the time, but you’ll leave Gary’s class feeling more confident in your own skill set and prepared to tackle the arduous task of finding and securing a job.
To Gary, a resounding thanks: for the aforementioned reasons, you made my 18-hour course load a lot more enjoyable. Coming to your class was always a great way to end my day and really helped me prepare for life outside of Carroll Hall. Although I wasn’t (and still am not) a fan of blogging, having a professor really emphasize the importance of establishing an online presence and building your personal brand made me a lot more prepared for the job hunt I’m currently entrenched in. It’s been a huge talking point in my interviews, and having a consistent online voice has, in my honest opinion, given me a leg up on competing applicants. So seriously, thank you SO much.
